Job Details

This position will oversee the employee hiring and performance management processes in baseball operations, both for internships and full-time positions. This person will handle the logistics of the hiring process, conduct early stages of applicant screening and find ways to improve our interview process and expand our applicant pool. Additionally, this person will help oversee and improve employee feedback and improvement programs in coordination with HR department. This person will also assist in the creation and implementation of continued education programs for both office and field staff.

Responsibilities

During hiring season (approximately September to February)

  • Actively recruit for open positions through online job and internship postings; ensure we have a diverse pool of applicants for all available opportunities.

  • Organize candidate information, including resumes, responses forwarded by staff and direct contact with candidates

  • Conduct initial screening of applicants
    • Consists of reading application materials, administering and grading questionnaires, and conducting first round interviews with promising candidates

    • This process could change over time through consultation with baseball operations department heads

  • Communicate with relevant managers about potential candidates, guiding them to later steps of the interview process
    • This person may or may not be directly involved in these later interview stages

  • Help sell candidates on our opportunity (help us retain top applicant)

  • Document evaluations of candidates and decisions made during the interview and hiring process

During remainder of year (approximately March to August)

Hiring Process

  • Research and incorporate new techniques of evaluating potential candidates, such as interview methods, questionnaires, projects, etc.

  • Network with universities and other institutions across the country to develop relationships with professors or others in relevant fields

  • Research and develop new avenues for finding candidates to expand the applicant pool, with a particular emphasis on diversity

  • Maintain contact with past applicants whom we believe may be a good fit for future positions

  • Develop and maintain a list of departed staff and their current organization and titles

  • Develop and maintain a list of active professional players who may be a good fit for future positions after their playing careers end

Work with department heads to help establish and maintain current and future departmental needs

Performance Management

  • Help write job descriptions for new positions and improve job descriptions for current positions

  • Aid in the development of materials and process for full-time employee management and development, including educating managers on effective practices

  • Aid in the intern management, feedback, and evaluation process

  • Organize relevant performance management materials, including updated job descriptions and manager feedback

  • Survey employees on current management processes and potential improvements

Other Tasks

  • Help create and implement projects related to employee productivity and wellness (in conjunction with HR)

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of continued education programs (including seminar/conference attendance) for both office and field staff (in conjunction with HR)

  • Stay abreast of relevant hiring and performance management research and practices, particularly through attendance of pertinent conferences and seminars

  • Document unique positions or hiring practices across MLB

  • Collect and maintain updated information on industry/discipline-specific salary and benefit trends (in conjunction with HR)

  • Document decision making, educational and training processes across MLB

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • BA/BS degree
  • 2-3 years of recruiting experience for technical positions
  • HR experience
  • Bilingual
  • Experience working directly with Hiring Managers and managing full life cycle recruitment processes
  • Strong time management and attention to detail
