The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force of youth conservation volunteers, has an exciting opportunity in our Recruiting and Outreach Department. America’s #1 youth conservation service organization seeks a Recruiting Manager in either our Arlington, Virginia or Chicago, Illinois office.


Reporting directly to the Director of Member Experience, this position is responsible for sourcing and recruiting candidates to fill SCA’s programmatic and institutional needs. Overseeing a national recruiting team, this position develops SCA’s local and national sourcing and recruiting plans, employing new and traditional strategies. This position works closely with the Business Development team to anticipate recruiting needs, gaps and hiring priorities among programs. The Recruiting Manager also analyzes trend data of member and institutional positions to inform optimal sourcing and recruiting strategies while also providing management and hiring managers with recruiting reports and analytics. Additionally, this person will develop, track and optimize SCA’s digital recruiting campaigns across all digital channels, remaining consistent and coordinated with SCA’s overall digital outreach strategy led by the Advancement Department. This position works directly with the human resources department to ensure compliance with human resources procedures and risk management processes and policies. This position ensures quality and consistency in staff, member and partner support and retention while implementing Innovation Engineering (IE) guiding principles.


Roles and Responsibilities


  • Manages SCA’s recruiting and sourcing team and budget
  • Designs, develops and maintains the recruitment strategy and processes of SCA’s various programmatic and institutional staff hiring and placement needs
  • Compiles relevant trend data and analytics to guide sourcing needs, and identifies other relevant metrics to assist in executing a proactive and anticipatory recruiting effort
  • Develops creative ways to attract youth, young adult and adult candidates
  • Coordinates with the Business Development team and uses trend data to help anticipate programmatic placement needs
  • Provides managers with the tools and guidance to help forecast hiring needs
  • Processes and tracks applicant job submissions via the ATS system and other systems used/developed.
  • Remains compliant with regulatory mandates and best practices, and recommends to the human resources department any policy or process changes related to sourcing and recruiting


Digital Recruiting/Advertising

  • Designs effective digital recruitment sourcing and advertising strategies including digital diversity recruitment strategies
  • Utilizes innovative and creative digital recruitment methodologies in a cost effective and timely manner and manages related vendors
  • Leverages websites, mobile and social media solutions, and event technology integration as well as proprietary digital products to attract and recruit candidates
  • Ensures accurate and complete recruiting database records, metrics and reports
  • Ensures work and digital outreach is consistent and collaborated with SCA’s overall digital outreach strategy managed by the Advancement Department
  • Creates recruitment marketing materials including brochures, flyers and other materials in collaboration and consultation with SCA’s Marketing Department



  • Identify recruiting and outreach opportunities to ensure diversity within applicant pools
  • Maintain targeted relationships/partnerships with outside organizations to grow applicant pools

Data Analytics

  • Evaluate efforts and set sourcing and recruiting strategies by collecting, tracking, and evaluating data
  • Among other potential recruiting and hiring measurements, collect data on cost-per-hire, time to hire, the impact of a continuous improvement process on cost savings, and the improvement of work processes in the time taken or steps involved
  • Other tasks as assigned.

  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and initiative in dealing with daily assumptions.


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of proven experience in sourcing and recruitment
  • Competency in HR practices and an understanding of fair employment practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and Social Media web platforms.
  • Proficient in navigating Salesforce systems
