Role Purpose:
The Sr. Benefits Specialist serves as a resource to SSM Health employees in the education, communication and processing of employee benefit plans. Provides informal team leadership and support to the Benefit Specialists and HR/Benefits Assistants as needed.
    • Provides exceptional customer service to employees by responding to benefits-related questions and requests for information in a timely and professional manner.
    • Ensures benefit changes and requests are processed in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Researches and resolves escalated employee concerns. Elevates identified issues, concerns and ideas from designated region to Benefits leadership team
    • Serve as the main contact to HR Leaders within the region regarding benefit updates, communications and changes.
    • Serve as expert to region's benefit plans.
    • Monitors and updates benefit information in New Employee Orientation/Welcome (NEW) and other benefit related materials for continuous improvements and/or changes.
    • Supports the Human Resources team in providing guidance to employees, leadership and HR staff on all benefits and benefit-related processes.
    • Utilizes positive communication methods to build organizational pride and enthusiasm around the benefit plans. Sets example of strong customer service, de-escalation of difficult conversations and providing service recovery.
    • Proactively communicates to employees regarding benefit changes or processes. Builds trust and develops relationships with the employee population.Present and promote benefit related information for various audiences such as New Employee Welcome, informational meetings/webinars and hospital rounding and identify other opportunities and methods for benefits education.
    • Assists in benefits onboarding for newly hired Physicians and Executives.
    • Serves as process expert in ongoing acquisitions.
    • Promotes teamwork within and across the system by maintaining positive and productive intra-entity and intradepartmental relationships and utilizing effective problem solving skills.
    • Ensures that required compliance participant communications is distributed timely and accurately.
    • Strives for data integrity, monitors benefit usage and performs regular audits to ensure fair and intentional use of the benefits.
    • Ensures benefit compliance with federal and state laws.
    • Develops and implements processes in alignment with appropriate regulations, organizational policies and benefit processes.
    • Identifies efficiencies in all benefit processes within the region or system-wide incorporating continuous quality improvement
    • Performs analytical work on proposed benefit changes
    • Proactive identification of the organization's needs; strategic planning for upcoming changes or initiatives.
    • Identifies data needs for ongoing audits, process improvements and/or automation.


    Minimum Requirements:
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience and/or education in a Human Resources related field
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
