The New School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative leader to serve in a key role overseeing the talent acquisition process. This is a highly visible position responsible for leading the overall design, development, and implementation of the University’s talent acquisition and retention strategies. The Senior Director will utilize best practices for actively sourcing candidates, and maintain productive relationships with University leaders to ensure that their talent acquisition needs are met in a timely and effective manner.


The Senior Director leads the talent acquisition and retention process for the University, driving successful recruitment outcomes by actively sourcing and providing consultative support in the selection of candidates. The Senior Director will build strong relationships with senior leadership, and serve as a trusted partner in advancing their recruitment needs. The Senior Director will collaborate with other members of the Human Resources team in serving as a resource to hiring managers on best practices and procedures for candidate evaluation during the selection process.

Other duties include:

- Oversee communication and marketing of job announcements designed to attract a wide range of highly talented candidates.
- Partner with hiring teams to build effective sourcing, assessment, and closing approaches.
- Recommend recruitment techniques that contribute to the University’s long-term success.
- Utilize innovative strategies, as well as traditional sourcing methods, to attract candidates.
- Ensure a professional and positive candidate experience by maintaining ongoing communication and securing feedback both during the recruitment process and thereafter.
- Partner with HR colleagues to create a “best in class” onboarding and “new employee” experience ensuring that new hires feel welcome and supported, prepared for success, and familiarized with the University’s culture, values, and mission.
- Utilize benchmarking and metrics to ensure that positions are titled and compensated consistent with the market, and aligned with principles of internal equity.
- Collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of recruiting practices.
- Interpret “off-boarding” data to inform strategies on reward and retention.


Preferred Qualifications, Experience and Proficiencies

- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or related discipline.
- 5-10 years of progressive experience in recruitment and talent acquisition, with emphasis on marketing and/or advertising, and demonstrated success in the application of current recruitment methodologies.
- Exceptional ability to screen, interview, and prepare a candidate pool for positions.
- Experience in external/internal communications, including social media management.
- Proven ability to support a great brand and attract the highest quality talent.
- Demonstrated commitment to the value of diversity and inclusion.
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including coaching, influencing and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and cross group collaboration skills.

- Demonstrated influencing and consulting skills; adept at managing relationships both internally and externally.

- Experience with LinkedIn® highly preferred.
