The Opportunity:

The Senior Manager, Employee Relations will be responsible leading the delivery of management practices and processes associated with Employee Relations to the entire population of athenahealth’s workforce.  This exciting opportunity requires an experienced ER professional to apply their deep understanding, knowledge, and expertise on Employee Relations functions to include: Manager Services, Investigations, and Code of Conduct.  This individual will be exceptional at promoting positive communications between employees and leaders, he/she will be conversant with labor laws and economic conditions, and be able to successfully identify and mitigate risks. This position will provide a single point of contact for efficiently providing a highly accessible expert employee relations experience. The Senior Manager, Employee Relations will be responsible for proactive and responsive approaches to employee relations issues that support a positive and productive work environment. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of intellectual curiosity; superior organizational, preparation, and analytical skills; and a strong work ethic.  Comfort working on multiple initiatives in a highly dynamic environment as well as the ability to remain calm under pressure and/or in ambiguous situations is crucial.
 
Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Employee Relations is responsible for leading the delivery of management practices and processes associated with Employee Relations to the entire population of athenahealth’s workforce.  Responsible for management and execution of Employee Relations functions including: Manager Services, Investigations, and Code of Conduct.  The Sr. Manager promotes positive communications between employees and leaders, uses knowledge of labor laws and economic conditions, and to identify and mitigate risks. This position will provide a single point of contact for efficiently providing a highly accessible expert employee relations experience. The Senior Manager, Employee Relations will be responsible for proactive and responsive approaches to employee relations issues that support a positive and productive work environment.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

50% Serving as a trusted, objective advisor to leaders and individual contributors on human resources matters

  • Provides guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees regarding laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practices related to employee relations matters
  • Interpreting and applying company policies and practices to leaders and employees
  • Facilitates communication among employees and management by providing guidance and consultation regarding problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, litigation avoidance and strives to resolve internal conflict informally through appropriate conflict management and mediation techniques

30% Advises and assists in developing, planning, directing, and implementing procedures to produce effective and efficient management of the employee relations function

  • Providing ongoing informal and formal training to leaders on HR issues designed to provide the knowledge and tools to enhance managerial effectiveness and minimize risk
  • Providing ongoing coaching and feedback to leaders to elevate their managerial effectiveness

20% Ensures compliance with all state and federal discrimination and employment regulations

  • Conducting internal investigations
  • Maintaining case tracking
  • Creating reports and analyses that convey status of current cases, identifying trends, seeking out benchmarks, and developing action plans to effectively address issues, where appropriate

Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

  • BA or BS required, and Master’s degree preferred
  • Certifications in SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or similar training credentials
  • Knowledge of immigration laws and processes
  • A minimum of 10 years of Human Resources experience in a corporate environment (8 years Employee Relations Experience)
  • Proven track record of effectively coaching leaders of people on employee relations issues
  • Experience conducting investigations of allegations of unfair management practices and HR policy violations
  • Demonstrated success in resolving management / employee conflicts
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • Experience analyzing / interpreting data, and building associated action plans
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
