We are looking for a HR Generalist who likes interacting with managers and employees and becomes the trusted partner of both managers and employees on issues regarding employee relations, benefits, training, recruiting, affirmative action and employment equity programs.  We have two high-volume locations, in San Jose and Richmond, and this generalist would be an advisor to managers in both sites to help them improve their communication and development of employees.  This person would also link with employees and help them understand their roles, responsibilities, opportunities, and address their concerns.  This person would link to HR VP in San Jose to help build employee engagement and manager development strategies and practices.

  

What you'll be doing:

  • Partner with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations
  • Consults with leaders about challenging people situations
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to the management team for continuous improvement
  • Respond to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints
  • Maintain and coordinate employee recognition programs
  • Coach managers on company policies and also on approaches to effectively communicate and engage in order to increase employee engagement
  • Represent the company for any unemployment claims
  • Documentation of issues and communicating next steps to managers and HR
  • Articulate accurately all HR policies to managers and employees
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill entry-level, professional and technical job openings.
  • Reviews applications and interviews applicants to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
  • Develops recruiting network to hire quality talent
  • Conducts new-hire orientation.

Requirements

What we are looking for:

  •  2-5 years experience in a high-volume employer role such as an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner
  • Travel 25% of the time around Bay Area. A valid driver's license is required for this position
  • A skilled coach for both managers and employees, and can work through employee relations issues from complaint to positive resolution, coaching both manager and employee
  • Able to deliver management skill-based training to improve employee engagement and retention
  • Some recruiting experience a plus
  • Calm in high-volume and high intensity situations
  • Experience working with drivers, warehouse employees and other related industries a plus
  • Excellent HRIS and computer skills, ability to enter, look up information and build reports
  • Experienced in managing HR professionals and developing their skills
  • Experience with benefits and benefits administration and have experience in overseeing benefits administration across multiple sites
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including CA Law, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers’ compensation, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.  Ability to link between multiple sites in California. 
  • Pro-active communication with managers, other members of the HR team,  and employees
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Work; ability to use standard office equipment, good communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
  • Capability of effective planning and priority setting.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to consistently meet daily and weekly  deadlines and effectively relay information to corporate headquarters in San Diego
  • Good judgment in people matters, able to listen to all sides and build bridges with managers, enabling them to develop as people leaders, and helping employees to understand their role
