Job Details

This Training Instructor position is located in the TSA Training Academy Branch, Training Centers Division, Office of Training and Development (OTD), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If you are selected for this position, you will provide delivery of established training curriculum in lecture, facilitated, and interactive formats.

 

This rewarding position located in Glynco, GA includes the following requirements and duties:

  • Serving as an instructor delivering established curriculum, training tools, and course content for training provided by the TSA Training Academy and ensuring that course content and delivery methods follow established training objectives.
  • Reviewing and assisting with the development and implementation of TSA Training Academy plans and schedules to continually monitor performance, integrity, and effectiveness of the training program.
  • Participating in and/or leading training courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences to promote the TSA Training Academy's overall training programs.
  • Collaborating with senior leadership, program offices, DHS, or other Federal officials to discuss a variety of training support and curricula issues. Representing the Branch or Division on internal and external work groups in support of priority and agency-level initiatives.
  • Participating in the creation of realistic training scenarios for inclusion in the instructor and student lesson plans to enhance curriculum, training tools, and course content.
  • Providing instruction on established courses, and identifying possible course material revisions based on instructor and/or participant feedback or suggestions.
  • Providing routine advice and guidance to explain training policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Researching new training approaches or evaluation methods.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-G Pay Band (equivalent to GS-11), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-F Pay Band or GS-9 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Such experience must demonstrate a basic knowledge of training program principles, concepts, regulations, and practices to perform routine, multiple and varying training assignments. Examples of specialized experience may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment;
  • Assisting with administering a training program;
  • Assisting in the development or reviewing of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and the evaluation of training results;
  • Working in the transportation security field which required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
OR Education: Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in education or a field in or related to law enforcement;

OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an L.L.M., if related.

OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed higher level graduate education (beyond the second year) and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for this position, and may be computed by first determining your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the band level; then determining your education as a percentage of the education required for the band level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the position.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts indicated above meets the requirements for this position. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one year of full-time study requirement.

  • Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment;
  • Supervising or administering a training program;
  • Developing or reviewing training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluating training results;
  • Working in the transportation security field which required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
DESIRABLE FACTOR: Experience in the functionality and operation, use, and instruction of airport security screening equipment and associated training simulators used for passenger and/or baggage screening, is desired.
