Job Description:  VP of Talent, Sittercity

Summary:  In support of our mission and ambitious growth strategy, the VP of Talent is a newly created position that will oversee Human Resources for all of Sittercity and be based in our Chicago headquarters.  The VP collaborates with the Leadership team and business leaders guiding the development of HR strategies that attract, develop, and retain talent.  As a forward-looking business partner, the VP will proactively assess business performance to develop HR solutions that enable business strategies, foster leadership success, and drive the employee experience.  The VP will also serve as an advisor to business leaders regarding HR policies and processes in order to optimize employee engagement and productivity.

  • Diagnose, translate, and define current and future business needs into an overall integrated strategic HR plan
  • Deliver high quality, proactive HR consultation that enables the attainment of strategic business goals and critical initiatives in light of growth objectives
  • As an HR Business Partner, change agent and member of the Leadership team, the VP will help drive strategic growth plans and objectives across the organization
  • Pro-actively lead change
  • Provide organizational development and support including organization design and enhance communication processes and reward/recognition programs
  • Monitor and develop progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance
  • Assess organization capabilities; identify competency and talent gaps, ensure development of people resources; support talent assessment and succession planning
  • Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the organization
  • Initiate and maintain effective communications with management staff and employees; provide coaching and guidance on matters related to performance management, offer feedback on style and behaviors to improve employee productivity and engagement
  • Ensure and maintain the alignment of all corporate HR initiatives and programs, implement and deliver HR programs within the organization
  • Inform the budget process regarding all HR matters including, but not limited to, salaries and wages, benefits, training and other employee programs
  • Develop and drive people engagement strategies that foster an environment where all employees are respected and valued


We would also like to see the following qualities:

  • Bachelor’s degree of Business Administration in HR, Science in HR, Sociology, or the equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in startup, tech or retail company, preferably during a period of change and ambitious growth
  • Experience with Agile teams preferred
  • 10 + years’ progressive experience in Human Resources Management with proven track record as a manager of people
  • True Business Partner experience - working with executives and business leaders to facilitate strong business performance and build company culture
  • Demonstrated experience of working in specialty areas such as Recruitment, Talent Development & Learning, or Remuneration
  • Strong understanding of organizational development, ability to work with external consulting partners on change management, coaching and training initiatives
  • Solid experience with compensation and benefits - able to evaluate, strategize and manage comp and benefit plans including exec compensation, equity, short term and long term incentive plans, 401k and company perks
  • Demonstrated ability to attract talent through advocacy for the company
  • Ability to show a strong strategic mind
  • Strong written and verbal communication and language skills

Minimum experience required:

  • 7+ years’ experience in a generalist HR/People/Talent role
  • 3+ years of managing direct reports
  • Experience in building process/infrastructure from scratch
  • SPHR Certification
