Job Details

ABRAMS, the preeminent publisher of visual and children's books, seeks a forward-thinking, hands-on Vice President, People. This newly created position reports directly to the President/CEO and will help drive the company’s people agenda alongside business and growth agenda.

 

The job requires a credible, creative HR leader with a track record of delivering high-impact business-aligned human resources solutions that expand organizational capabilities in the areas of recruitment, development, and retention of talent, as well as further our investment in cultural stewardship as the company continues its expansion. ABRAMS is a NYC-based, French-owned independent publisher subsidiary with 140 employees based predominantly in their brand new lower Manhattan office.

 

Role and Responsibilities: 

HR FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP 

HRIS – Manage vendor relationships (ADP) and continue efforts to achieve operational efficiencies through automation of administrative tasks. 

Compensation and Benefits – Oversee Compensation and Benefits programs, manage vendor relationships, assess competitiveness of offerings within market and industry segment. 

Performance Management – Oversee Performance Management processes including Annual and Merit reviews; provide coaching and guidance to managers and staff around goal setting and delivery of feedback that motivates performance to desired outcomes. 

Training and Development - Develop and deliver training programs consistent with organizational needs. 

Career Development – Spearhead efforts to create career paths that support retention and foster opportunities for internal advancement. 

Recruiting – Oversee recruitment of qualified talent and ensure high-quality candidate pipelines that support plans for continue growth. 

Compliance – Manage ABRAMS compliance with federal, state, and local legislation pertaining to personnel matters.  Communicates changes in the organization’s human resources policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed.  

CULTURAL STEWARD 

Partner with Management and Staff on a variety of company-wide people initiatives designed to strengthen company culture around key metrics including inclusion and diversity, team building, reaching new audiences, and celebrating success based on our Core Values and Mission. 

CHANGE MANAGER 

Evaluate ABRAMS HR programs and initiatives and spearhead efforts to ensure competitiveness within our industry.

 

Requirements

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 10+ years of progressive HR experience, publishing preferred.
  • Strong hands-on HR Generalist background, including proficiency with HR laws andregulations.
  • Ability to evaluate HR situations and solutions from a pragmatic business perspective.
  • Proven success in managing HR programs and initiatives to high levels of impact and satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; knowledge of HRIS (ADP preferred).
  • Organized, detail oriented, strong communicator, able to multitask, and work bothindependently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be trusted and maintain strict confidentiality as required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
