Workforce Development Manager
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the third largest system of its kind in the United States and employer to over 7,700 individuals, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Workforce Development Manager.
The Workforce Development Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing VDOT’s workforce development programs focused on building talent pipelines for the future and retooling the existing workforce to meet current and future needs.
The agency has one central office in Richmond and nine district offices throughout the state of Virginia. VDOT is responsible for building, maintaining and operating the Commonwealth of Virginia’s roads, bridges and tunnels and also provides funding for airports, seaports, rail and public transportation. Minimum requirements for the position include a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent level of education and experience) in Human Resources Management, Organizational Management or related field. Candidates should also possess significant experience working in a large, complex operation with a diverse and geographically dispersed employee population. Additional requirements include extensive knowledge of workforce development principles, practices and models as well as extensive management level experience in workforce development and workforce training programs. Successful candidates will possess knowledge of research methodologies and data analysis, preparation of proposals and grants and marketing and outreach program development. In order to be successful, candidates must be able to quickly assess the needs of the agency and build strategic partnerships with external entities.
The salary for the position is negotiable dependent upon candidate education and experience. Benefits include but are not limited to participation in the Virginia Retirement System, vacation and sick leave, group life insurance, medical and dental insurance, professional dues and conference expenses. Relocation and moving expenses may be negotiated with the agency. Candidates will be subject to a DMV Driver Record Check and fingerprint background check.
